Flight Log 2-24-17

Flying my Eachine Racer 250has been a blast. The quad that was in the hangar prior to this was my Syma X5c which was a ton of fun but then this happened. The Eachine 250 offered exactly what I was looking for in an entry level FPV* quad now that the experience of general flight was under my belt. The current setup I am running is the stock Eachine 250 racer RTF* kit with 2 additional 3S Turnigy 2200 40-50c batteries. Some people are saying that these will not fit but in the 4th generation version of the racer I was able to get it in cozy. Compared with the stock Eachine 1500 25c battery they are much bigger (pic) and unfortunately I don’t have an OSD* so I can’t compare the flight time. Unfortunately because of daylight savings time and the stock camera not being too great in low light, the amount of flights I have logged has only been around 2-3 in the past 2 months. This was coupled with the fact that I zoned out and unscrewed the VTx* antenna prior to unplugging the battery which shot 600mw over the board and toasted it.

Most of this time was spent waiting for my banggood order to come through for my new video transmitter as well as a dual antenna kit, props and a carrying case. These came in around a week ago and for whatever reason the VTx* OSD* didn’t work out of the box. The stock settings seemed a tad bit weak so I got to running with LibrePilot GCSto see if I could custom tune it. Following the videos on this led to be harder than I thought but eventually I had a semi-decent tune (or so I thought) and I was off to the races. Eventually the PIDS* will be dialed in for the 250 with the 2200 battery and I will post them so other people don’t have to suffer the fate of manually tuning. Anyways, this resulted in childlike joy to go fly around and the resulting negligence resulted in screws that were not fully seated in their locations cutting my first flight with the new VTx* short to the first lipo.

Here is a shot of the 3 missing screws on the tail side with an additional one screw missing on the bottom and a missing zip tiethat was suppose to be holding the ESC* in place. Another zip tie was available and this was repaired however I will need to place an order for replacement hardware. Some of this stuff might be able to be sourced locally so that I can get back in the air.

This is what the Eachine 250 looks like with the aftermarket antenna. I plan on ordering ESC* gauge wire so I can move the VTx* to the back end (See:RevFPV’s Eachine 250 mod video) so that I can fit the 4S Lipo on the top plate. We will see if I have enough lift for the 245 Gram behemoth.

Glossary of alphabet soup used.
ESC* – Electronic Speed Controller

FPV* – First Person View aka live video from the cameraÂ
OSD* – On Screen Display
PIDS* – Proportional-intelgral-derivative , adjusts input to achieve desired results with a closed loop system.
RTF* – Ready To Fly
VTx – Video Transmitter that sends video back to the display / goggles for live FPV
