Baby4

Welcome back, if this is your first time following along with our coverage of birth – we structure this like a live blog akin to an apple event / apple product reveal.

This post in particular will likely have additional coverage not seen in previous events. I’m currently not sure if i will structure this as an addendum or a preamble.

July 28th

  • No news, I was really hoping you were going to have the same birthday as me. You are officially full term tomorrow, Tuesday July 29th.

July 30th

  • Your mom had an appointment today and it looks like we are at the same stage as the last appointment.
  • We anxiously await your arrival and if you don’t come on your own we have an induction scheduled for Monday of next week (August 4th)

August 4th

  • 0130 – contractions started
  • 0202 – app says to go to hospital, your mom disagrees but your Grandma insisted that we should strongly consider it.
  • 0220 – Grandma woke me up and said it was time to consider leaving
  • 0300 – kissing goodbye to your brothers and packing everything up to start our journey
  • 0326 – departed to go to the hospital. Mom only had 2 contracts on the drive leading us to believe they weren’t going to be in close enough succession to get admitted
  • 0340 – arrive at the hospital (early for our induction appointment)
  • 0350 – your mom’s water broke in the waiting room while we were waiting for l&d staff to come get us 🤣😂. (kinda like a movie fr)
  • 0421 – went and got our stuff from the car, came back and mom has two ivs (one is a backup in case mom needs a transfusion)
  • 0428 – mom is in a lot of pain from these contractions
  • 0438 – pending labs back for epidural
  • 0500 – your mom is pretty pissed off about this lack of epidural. She’s using this exercise ball and me rubbing her back as the only distractions
  • 0529 – anesthesiologist is here for epidural time
  • 0540 – completed epidural, they said give it 30 minutes to work. They also asked that I be seated throughout the procedure (a new one for me).
  • 0612 – Mom got the epidural about half an hour ago (finally). She is taking a rest before being re-checked. Last check was on arrival and the reading was 5 and 70%
  • 0613 – nurse is in to check to see where we are at
  • 0617 – catheter in, we are at a 7.
  • 0622 – mom told me to tell her when 30 minutes go by for her elective button press that allows for extra hugs from the epidural. She was in good spirits prior to the catheter being placed but is back to being uncomfortable
  • 0636 – update she smashed that button like it was the like button (don’t forget to ring the bell as well)
  • 0643 – mom is resting trying to recoup some energy, i drank a red bull and I’m unresting.
  • 0728 – Mom and I talked a bit and we are still just waiting for news / updates on your pending arrival. She is back to resting,
  • 0900 – we are at a 10 but we are trying to do some clever shenanigans to get your head in the right position before the pushing starts
  • 0933 – I slept for like an hour because it is so cold in here and i just wanted to chill with the sheet over me.
  • 0953 – nurse is back to check and see where we are at
  • 0954 – nurse said we are going to move mom around for another 20 minutes before we make a decision to start pushing or not
  • 1054 – nurse is back and attending to needs, will update when the go ahead for pushing is given. Cart full of birth accessories arrived, so it may start soon.
  • 1055 – on, lots of pushing
  • 1139 – you are born! We are pending on stats so send your guesses in direct via text (still plenty of time before we get the numbers
  • 1145 – you had some initial trouble with some fluid in your lungs but you avoided leaving our room with some cpap action at the lowest setting. You came back over to your mom around 25 minutes later
  • 1240 – you’re pretty worn out from all the fun described above and are attempting to eat from your mom but it seems like you are a bit more fussy due to this
  • 1317 – you’re really latching and nursing. Nurse Ruth says that you will get taken to the warmer in about half an hour to get the stats (height / weight). She also made sure your oxygen was good at an o2 sat of 99%.
  • 1340 – your brothers are so stoked to come meet you. Once we move to a post partum room, they’ll be en route.
  • 1414 – stats! 8lb 7oz, 22 inches (I’ll add the guesses i got later)
  • 1439 – we have officially migrated into the postpartum suite!
